These are the cool new stim toys/chewlery i bought and i’m loving them. I especially find the Silicone Leaf Necklace to be perfect for chewing, sucking, and even flicking (shape + texture = perfection) and it also polishes my teeth and massages my gums in the process. I honestly love it lol. And the Fidget Ring is not only the most awesome colours, it’s also better than a cube bc it doesn’t have to sit in my palm, which is very very sensitive. I can basically wear it like a ring, and even spin it to boot! And the last one, the aqua Angel Teething Necklace, is super pretty and a nice texture & shape too. Will be better for going out, but yeah it’s all awesome stuff!!

Pocahontas was a victim of child rape. Explain why you thinking wearing this real person as a costume is okay. You think dressing up as a rape victim somehow makes you not trash?

lavendervanillaowl

…how is this relevant, sorry? Just confused. You shouldn’t dress as other cultures because cultural appropriation. The child rape victim mention sounds like it’s just there to use as leverage, which seems dishonest, unnecessary, and just…shitty rhetoric.

vivaladivatracy

Seems important to ensure people are aware. Cultural appropriation, yes, which has been discussed a lot in posts shared about her. Leverage? Dishonest (a factual statement is dishonest)? Unnecessary? I took the lead from other Indigeous people on social media who are making sure people who justify the “costume” are aware of what she really went through. If that is “unnecessary,” please speak with them about it. I do not debate the position, and words, held and used by her tribe and other Indigenous groups and peoples.

spongebob-autisticquestions

things I wish autism research actually tried to figure out:

absynthe--minded

  • why caffeine works for some of us, but not all, and even then it often depends on the way you take it and the dosage
  • how come all of us have gastrointestinal problems?
  • addendum to the above: what exactly are our gastrointestinal problems? are we genetically more likely to have autism be comorbid with gluten sensitivity/colitis/IBS/lactose intolerance/whatever else or is it something completely different? is it psychosomatic? the fuck
  • okay but how does being sensory-seeking work. and what does stimming do to your brain. what neurological function are we facilitating with flapping hands and rocking back and forth and spinning? wouldn’t it be great if we had a serious long-term study of the brain on stimming?
  • are you more likely to be autistic and LGBT?
  • what are things we do better than neurotypicals?

but no it’s always “how do we train the animals to be something they’re not” or “but what made you this way??” or “Time To Find A Cure”

reblog 30th October 2017 October 30th 2017 interesting i suspect the gastro issues are related to neurological and chemical sensitivities but that is just a theory and it doesn't explain it all by a long stretch lol italics stimming it's pm the best ask to tag actuallyautistic

what low/no empathy means: not being able to relate to other people/put yourself in their shoes

what low/no empathy doesn’t mean: lying to people because you don’t care about their problems, not being able to care about those problems, not being able to form relationships with other people, acting abrasive to people because you can’t care about them or their issues, wanting to be the center of attention

nonbinaries-on-ice

friendly reminder that people with low/no empathy can still be compassionate and/or sympathetic! empathetic =/= “good.” there are plenty of good people with low/no empathy.

Crash pads

the-anarcho-raver

A crash pad, or “punk house” is an abandoned house that is inhabited by squatters in an attempt to avoid rent and property tax. The idea was popularized by members of the punk subculture, and even the hippie culture of the 1960s.
They usually provide shelter for people who need a place to stay, and It is not uncommon at all for these households to uphold anarchist ideology and run like communes.

You’ve all heard about right-handedness, left-handedness, and ambidexterity but…

feministingforchange

…have you ever heard of Cross-Dominance aka Mixed-Handedness?

As you are probably aware, handedness refers to hand preference/dominance. So right-handed people (the most common) are right-dominant while left-handed people are left-dominant and ambidextrous people use both sides equally.

But did you know that while ambidexterity is more commonly known, it’s actually a less common variety of mixed-handedness? “What is mixed-handedness”, you ask?

Cross-dominance, also known as mixed-handedness, mixed dominance, or increased hand efficiency, is a motor skill manifestation where a person favors one hand for some tasks and the other hand for others. For example, a cross-dominantperson might write with the left hand but throw primarily with the right. Ambidexterity is a well-known but rare variant of cross-dominance, but cross-dominant people may also be left or right-handed rather than ambidextrous.

It can also refer to mixed laterality, which refers to a person favoring eyes, ears, feet, orhands on one side of the body. A person who is cross-dominant can also be stronger on the opposite side of the body that they favor; for example, a right-handed person can be stronger on the left side. Cross-dominance can often be a problem when shooting orin activities that require aim, although athletes can still achieve success in sports that require accuracy, like passing in American football and shooting in basketball.

Does this speak to any of you because it sure speaks to me! (source)

All my life I’ve been describing myself as an ambidextrous person who’s hands are equally useful for different tasks. I NEVER HAD A NAME FOR IT UNTIL NOW!!!!! That’s pretty great IMHO and I hope that by sharing this information with you, other mixed-handed ppl will finally know what to call themselves as well!

YAY!!!!!!!!
