This is my idea for an ultergender flag. It is based off of the transgender flag and this alternative intersex flag that appears never to have caught on. Since it never caught on, I figured I could reuse the colors, which are based off of the orchid flower. The orchid was chosen because it’s an intersex symbol and is in the intersex pride colors, yellow and purple. I wanted to add a symbol or maybe make this a bit more distinctive, but I couldn’t think of anything.
I’d like people to discuss this with me before we go ahead with it, and other people can come up with their own ideas, but if nobody does then this will just be it.
And feel free to tag me in anything you post about ultergender or the flag, too!
Oh this is lovely, thank you!! I have no other comments but I’m happy to boost and see if anyone else has anything to add??
Every person is at risk to be pressured for sex, even after they say no, or say they don’t want to.
Every person is at risk of being sexually assaulted and raped.
Every person is at risk to be hit on, even after rejecting someone.
Every person is at risk to be emotionally or physically punished by their partner for not wanting to have sex, or participate in certain sexual acts.
These are things that have happened to me as an asexual, but they are also things that have happened to my non-ace friends, including literally every single woman I’m friends with.
Once, someone even tried to hurt me for not wanting to have sex with them, and then the same person tried to hurt my non-ace friend for not wanting to have sex with them a few months afterwards.
These are not things that we, as asexuals, can claim are specific to us, or are evidence of our oppression. These are things that are a result of misogyny and rape culture.
For a part of my teenage years, I spent a lot of time with the type of people who get angry when they’re rejected. They don’t care WHY you reject them. Most of them don’t even think about. They just care that you rejected them, because these people feel entitled to other people’s bodies.
are you legit arguing now then that rape is rape is rape is rape, so reasons don’t matter (outside of the ones you deem real = misogyny and, an equally undefined, “rape culture”), in order to maintain the fallacious argument that asexuals cannot claim the experience of corrective rape at all?
i mean, did u even notice that you’ve basically tried (& failed, at least) to erase the entire notion of corrective rape?
do you even know what rape culture IS???? ppl get raped for all kinds of reasons, including but not even remotely limited to someone trying to “correct” a person’s asexuality (e.g., x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, and very importantly x ~ pls note that I could have found wayyyy more examples but i have other things to do today too.)
when will ppl stop acting as if they know all the possible variations and limits of humankind, and the mysterious blue/green rock on which we live?
the world is infinitely more complex and varied than these asshats give it credit for.
By “asexuals face corrective rape” are you claiming that asexuals are more likely to be raped than allosexuals specifically because of their lack of sexual attraction? Or are you claiming that there is a fundamental difference between these “corrective rapes” and others? If so what is that difference and how are you suggesting it be dealt with? Have you looked at accounts of rape from “allosexual” women to see if their actually experiencing sexual attraction was used as a justification to rape them and with what frequency? Or is allosexuality /not/ a sexual orientation? Are you making an effort to distinguish between the justifications that rapists give women for raping them and their actual motivations?
(You could say that I should raise these questions about the term corrective rape itself/trends in discussing rape against lesbians and bisexual women more broadly and many people have and continue to, and levied many other criticisms that I would be happy to elaborate on.)
You’re a PhD candidate, I would expect a little more rigor and specificity in your claims and arguments.
Are you for real????? Why are you putting words in my mouth, this is really fucked up. I didn’t even mention allosexuals and I certainly never said anyone was “more likely” to be targeted or hurt by corrective rape in particular, like fuck off already. All I was saying was that aces do <<<ALSO>>> get targeted for corrective rape, SPECIFICALLY bc of their asexuality, as it is something rapists specifically say sometimes is their reason and i see no reason in arguing with the victims/survivors claiming its happened to them (while OP wants to speak over them about it).
it’s not OUR job as aspecs to be different from the stereotypes that ppl assign to us
it’s society’s job to stop being bigoted assholes
imho…
